Assembly of flat keys for Roots fans
Most of the impellers, gears, couplings or pulleys of Roots fans are fitted with flat keys where they fit the shaft. Generally, the key and the keyway for the transition fit or clearance fit. As long as the key is put in the right place, with a copper rod can be installed in the keyway by tapping it. If you do not put the right to knock in, it is easy to make the flat key damaged, or the keyway hair.
When assembling, first install the flat key on the shaft to make contact with the bottom of the keyway, then align the keyway of another part (such as the impeller) with the orientation where the flat key is located and install it toward the shaft. If the fit is too tight, the key side prongs can be chamfered slightly larger. However, the width of the flat key should not be narrowed to make it easier to fit. Especially if the key is to transmit torque, and the keyway is too loose, its working life will be seriously affected.
